As you know, altruistic surrogacy has always been legal in Michigan. Unfortunately, the current bills create a commercial surrogacy industry which puts women without means at a disadvantage and risks creating a market in which children are a currency. Michigan’s current law allowing for altruistic surrogacy strikes a balance between supporting Michiganders’ desire to grow their families while protecting vulnerable women from exploitation and providing child protective state oversight.”
